WHAT: Electronic recycling collection events will be held at participating Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club stores across California in partnership with Fresno-based Electronic Recyclers, Inc. (ERI) on Saturday, September 15 and Sunday, September 16 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day. The Wal-Mart located at 301 Ranch Drive in Milpitas will be participating in this event.

Receiving areas will be set up in the parking lots of participating Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club stores where Electronic Recyclers will collect and recycle the e-waste.

E-waste is another name for electronic products nearing the end of their “useful life.” It is estimated that over six million computer monitors and televisions are stockpiled in California garages, closets and attics due to the development of newer technologies. This electronic equipment can be harmful to the environment and human health if not properly recycled. Many Californians are unaware that it is illegal to throw certain electronic items, such as televisions and computer monitors, in the trash because of the environmentally-sensitive materials they contain.

“We are very proud to be involved in this enormous e-waste collection event and partner with the Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club as our drop off locations,” said John S. Shegerian, chairman and CEO of Electronic Recyclers. “Electronic waste is a growing problem that affects the environment and human health. Events like these provide the community with a great, easy way to safely recycle their old electronics.”

“Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club are pleased to provide Orange County area residents a convenient solution to recycle their e-waste,” said Henry Jordan, regional general manager with Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. “By hosting these events, we aim to increase our customers’ awareness about recycling electronics and to further our efforts in reducing the electronic material waste.”
