John S. Shegerian, Chairman and CEO of Electronic Recyclers, Inc. (ERI), discussed the importance of responsibly recycling unwanted electronics today via the Ziff Davis Enterprise Virtual Tradeshow, “Energy Efficient IT and the Bottom Line.”

Addressing hundreds of IT executives as part of a panel titled “Taking Out the Trash: E-Waste,” Shegerian stressed the mounting environmental problems caused by the increase of our nation’s electronic waste stream and how important it is for the IT community to dispose of their used or unwanted electronics responsibly. Ziff Davis’ virtual trade shows gather experts on various topics to give presentations and answer questions raised by audiences attending from the comfort of their offices or homes. The presentations and interaction are all handled via internet, and the IT-related gatherings typically attract hundreds of IT specialists from corporations around the country.

“It’s a great honor to have been asked to present at Ziff Davis’ virtual tradeshow on this important topic and to be able to address the issue specifically with the corporate IT community,” said Shegerian. “The planet’s increasing glut of electronic waste is a problem that’s time for resolution has come. Each year 500 million obsolete computers and 130 million cell phones are thrown out, dumping hazardous materials into the regular waste stream. Properly disposing of electronic waste and the hazards it presents is a global concern, yet one that has a concrete solution, if those in charge of the hardware that is disposed dispose of it properly, they can play a significant role in benefiting our environment.”
