The County of Santa Clara, Department of Environmental Health will host a free drop-off event for electronic waste Saturday, April 18th, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Teaming with the nation’s leading recycler of electronics, Fresno-based Electronic Recyclers International, the event will provide locals with an opportunity to safely recycle their old computers, monitors, printers, television sets and other out-dated, unusable or unwanted electronic items for proper recycling.

No appointment is necessary, but it should be noted that no household hazardous waste will be accepted at this event – which is designated as an e-waste only collection event.

The free event is designed to provide residents with the opportunity to finally get rid of those old unwanted items, long since replaced and gathering dust in garages or storage units.

“In response to the need to control the fastest-growing waste stream in California – electronic waste – the County of Santa Clara is pursuing an aggressive e-waste recycling program,” said Rob D’Arcy, Hazardous Materials Program Manager for the Department of Environmental Health “This is a dedicated e-waste event, and we’re optimistic that many local residents will seize the opportunity to come out and unload that old computer, monitor, TV or other electronic junk they just haven’t known what to do with.”

“Each year, Californians replace hundreds of thousands of TVs, computers, CRT monitors and other electronic devices,” said John Shegerian, ERI’s Chairman and CEO. “Plus, they store literally millions more that are not used any more in homes, garages and businesses. We applaud the County of Santa Clara for taking proactive steps to keep this e-waste, and all the environmentally harmful toxins it contains, out of California landfills!”
