John S. Shegerian, Chairman and CEO of Electronic Recyclers International (ERI), the nation’s leading recycler of electronics, was featured as a panelist at the 2009 Electronics Recycling Conference & Trade Show, presented by the publishers of Recycling Today at the Hyatt Regency in Atlanta.

As part of the event’s industry panel discussion this morning titled “From Many to Few: The Impact of Consolidation,” Shegerian explained that while electronic recycling organizations may come and go, those that will prove to have longevity are those that have embraced their “green DNA.” He also urged his fellow industry leaders to accept the benefits of working hand in hand with voluntary organizations such as the Basel Action Network.

The well-attended panel featured Dan Sandoval of Recycling Today serving as moderator. Sandoval asked the panelists to discuss what best practices they could share with the audience and for their individual forecasts of the future of the still evolving electronic recycling industry. Joining Shegerian and Sandoval on the panel were Paul Adamson of Round2, Inc. and Reggie Chesson of Sims Recycling Solutions.

“It has been an honor and privilege to be a part of this prestigious panel alongside spokespeople from the leading brands of our industry,” said Shegerian. “My hat is off to Recycling Today, the leading publication of the recycling industry, for having the foresight to put such emphasis on this important topic. Electronic waste is certainly a challenge with dramatic global environmental and human rights implications, but with very real solutions. When done properly, the recycling of electronics is a dramatic solution to a number of problems. The key is getting all the players in our industry to recognize what can be achieved when our business is conducted in a sustainable fashion. The ‘Green Revolution’  is here to stay – permanently. And we are proud to be a part of it.”
