John S. Shegerian, Chairman and CEO of Electronic Recyclers International (ERI), the nation’s leading recycler of electronic waste, kicked off this year’s International Electronics Recycling Conference & Expo earlier today with a keynote presentation about the State of the Electronics Waste Management Industry alongside fellow keynote presenter, Jim Puckett, Executive Director of the Basel Action Network.

Speaking to the 700 industry professionals from nearly 20 nations, Shegerian shared ERI’s commitment to sustainable business and urged other recyclers of electronic waste to follow his example. In his presentation, Shegerian discussed the urgent importance of sustainable practices and the overall value of green business and the green collar workforce on a global level. He and Puckett both emphasized the importance of responsible e-stewardship as well.

Shegerian spoke of the need for his industry on an international level to embrace the “Green is Good” mantra and the burgeoning green collar workforce, not only to benefit the environment, but also to help with their own bottom lines.

ERI’s Co-Founder and Chief Compliance Officer, Aaron Blum will also be speaking at the Conference later today, addressing his industry colleagues from around the world on issues of compliance and proper, effective management of electronic waste.

“It’s an honor and a privilege for both Aaron and myself to be asked to speak at the International Electronics Recycling Conference & Expo — a forward-thinking, terrific green event,” said Shegerian. “Our country has a long way to go in terms of improving our environmental impact, but with such hurdles come exciting opportunities for the electronic recycling industry, if done responsibly and effectively. We work every day to make sure we are setting a sterling example of sustainability and environmental responsibility – at ERI, it’s our DNA to be green and we strongly believe it’s what recycling electronics should be all about.”
