Electronic Recyclers International (ERI), the nation’s leading recycler of electronic waste, participated today at the Colorado Association for Recycling’s (CAFR’s) 2013 Summit for Recycling at the Keystone Resort and Conference Center in Keystone, Colorado.

In a talk titled, “The Legislative Process of E-waste on a National Level,” Katie Reilly, ERI’s Program Manager of E-Waste Legislation and head of the company’s office in the Nation’s capital, addressed professionals from the recycling industry about Colorado’s new landfill ban on certain electronics going into effect this July and how important it will be for Colorado recyclers to practice efficient and responsible recycling of electronics.

In her talk, Reilly detailed how the state e-waste programs have changed the landscape of electronics collection and recycling in other states and discussed how the two certification programs, e-Stewards and R2, are changing the landscape for electronics recyclers and the importance certifications are playing when any entity selects an electronics recycler, including Colorado State government agencies.

“It’s a privilege to have been asked to discuss and share our perspectives on these important topics,” said Reilly. “It’s crucial that electronic recycling is done in a way that is responsible and effective – and with the legislative landscape changing here in Colorado, recyclers need to be aware of what that means for their operations.”

“We’re honored to have Katie represent us at this important event,” said ERI Chairman and CEO John Shegerian. “We applaud the CAFR and its efforts to bring together leaders from throughout the Colorado recycling community to learn best practices and share information about how we can all work together to enhance our operations’ sustainability and effectiveness.”

The Colorado Association for Recycling’s annual recycling Summit is a dynamic conference and exhibition that brings together the state’s recycling professionals and individuals dedicated to the principles of recycling, waste prevention and composting.

The theme of this years conference has been “The Keys to Unlocking the Next 30%.” In 2012, CAFR adopted a goal for recycling in Colorado that challenges businesses and residents statewide to increase diversion from landfills from 36% to 66% by 2021. The 2013 conference was designed to provide knowledge to help achieve that goal.
