ERI, the nation’s leading recycler of electronic waste and the world’s largest cybersecurity-focused hardware destruction company has contributed extensive data and insights for a new Special Report on e-waste recycling developed by the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business’s Initiative for Global Environmental Leadership (IGEL).

The Knowledge@Wharton report is part of an effort to explore sustainability and business best practices with an eye towards the next generation of sustainability solutions for both electronic recycling and the broader community.

Comprised of four in-depth articles covering different aspects of the electronic recycling spectrum, the content features interviews with ERI’s Chairman, CEO and co-founder John Shegerian, and other industry experts and insiders.

ERI’s assistance and knowledge-sharing for the special report is part of a broader partnership established last year whereby Wharton and IGEL faculty and researchers participate in an open knowledge exchange with ERI regarding sustainability, industry and community leadership.

IGEL promotes knowledge for business sustainability through world-class research and an open dialogue between academic, corporate, government and non-government organizations.

“Open communication with leaders of industry such as John and ERI are essential to our research, teaching and thought leadership efforts,” said Joanne Spigonardo, Senior Associate Director of Business Development of Wharton’s IGEL. “We’re excited to present the Special report, which is a direct result of this collaboration. We believe the content of the report can help to stimulate practical real world results and cutting edge solutions for problems ranging from curbing the glut of e-waste entering our waste stream to digital security to electronic recycling best practices in general.”

“It is an honor and a privilege to have been able to share our insights with the tremendous business and research minds of Wharton and IGEL,” said Shegerian. “Based on our shared commitment to sustainability and the preservation of natural resources, we formed an instant connection. We’re excited to see how this report will help to fuel positive change.”

Shegerian also serves on the IGEL Advisory Board.
