ERI, the nation’s leading recycler of electronic waste and the world’s largest cybersecurity-focused hardware destruction company, announced today that it has successfully achieved AAA certification for data destruction from the National Association for Information Destruction (NAID) for its facilities in California, Indiana and Massachusetts. ERI’s goal is to have all of its locations NAID certified by January of next year.

NAID is an international professional organization that sets the industry standards for responsible data destruction. Its certification program was created through the combined efforts of the industry’s leading information security professionals. Its standards and practices are recognized globally.

“We are extremely proud to have received AAA certification from NAID for three of our operations,” said John S. Shegerian, Chairman and CEO of ERI. “Not only has ERI met the strictest standards of environmental and operational excellence, we have now also reconfirmed our ongoing commitment to data destruction, as assessed by the planet’s leading authorities on the subject. With current technological innovations, there is very fast turnover when it comes to business and private computers, laptops, cell phones, and other consumer electronic devices. Proper destruction of private digital data has become a crucially important issue. NAID certification shows we are at the forefront of that issue.”

Shegerian noted that data security has always been a priority at ERI and the NAIDA AAA certification that all ERI locations are presently undergoing, starting with the flagship Fresno location, is the third certification system achieved and an effective way of demonstrating that longstanding commitment.

“ERI is the largest organization in the ITAD space to achieve this certification,” said NAID CEO Bob Johnson. “Secure data destruction is a huge and still growing concern today for businesses and consumers and they want to know their private information is completely secure, so ERI is doing something good here, not only for itself, but for all of its customers. All NAID certified data destruction organizations are subject to scheduled and unannounced audits to ensure that the strictest security standards for the destruction process are in place.”

Johnson added that ERI’s customers are the ultimate beneficiaries and that they are getting a lot more than simple peace of mind.

“By using ERI data destruction services, customers actually meet their legally-required due diligence mandates under all current data protection regulations. So, by achieving NAID AAA Certification ERI not only verifies the security of their processes, they actual fulfill their customers’ compliance obligations related to selecting a service provider.”
